A Wet Windy Wonderful Wall Raising

Today we held a wall raising service for one of our Habitat Partner Families in Batavia, Ohio. It rained and we got wet. It was windy and that made it chilly. There were about twenty volunteers from a church in Northern Kentucky along with other volunteers, family, and friends of the Partner Family totaling close to fifty people. Seeing all of these people was a wonderful site. The goal was that by the time everyone left, the four exterior walls would be in place. I'm pretty sure they were going to meet that goal.
I always feel such gratitude when I am able to be a part of wall raisings and house dedications. They are like paydays for me. I get to see families filled with excitement as they take their next steps toward home ownership.
I once again felt proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization. For me, Habitat does what I always wished the local churches I served would have done. We offer direct ministry to and with the poor. We come along side families in need and partner with them to build safe, decent, affordable housing. I can't think of anything that is more life-changing. I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing with my life. I am so grateful that God has called me to this place at this time to be in ministry.
