- Isaiah 52:7, NRSV
I got to be the bearer of good news today to two families. I got to call two families to let them know that the TriState Habitat for Humanity Board had approved them as Habitat Partner Families. I am so excited because with the addition of these two families we now have twenty-one approved Partner Families. This is the largest number of Partner Families we have had since I came to TriState Habitat for Humanity.
The responses that families have when they receive this good news is as varied as the human race. Some people break down and start crying. Some people seem to be stunned with disbelief. Some people whoop and holler with joy. Others are very quiet but their excitement and gratitude is always apparent.
I always feel humbled whenever I make these phone calls to give families the good news. I feel like I am God's messenger. I feel like I am getting to be a part of a life-changing moment in the history of these families. I get to be a part of God's action in the world. I get to be a witness to God's vision for the world that turns the current status quo on its head. I get to bring good news to the poor. It doesn't get much better than that.
I invite you to join me in praying for these families as they begin their journey with TriState Habitat for Humanity. Their patience will be tested. Their stress level is about to multiply ten fold as they try to work, raise families, and fit in all of their sweat equity hours. They have a lot of forms to complete and a lot of hoops to jump through on their way to home ownership. But for now, I'm praying that they will bask in the joy of this good news and take deep gulps of God's grace as it is poured out upon them.
Thanks for being a part of my journey!
