I was listening to NPR this morning on the way to work and my ears perked up when I heard the reporter talking about a new report about the nation's largest home builders. The report finds that Habitat for Humanity is now the eighth largest home builder in the country.
The NPR report referenced this article http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703374104575337392116636792.html in the Wall Street Journal that states that due to the poor economy, Habitat for Humanity moved up in the rankings because for-profit home builders have been devastated by the recession.
Certainly Habitat for Humanity does not judge its success by the standards of the world - especially the for-profit world. However, what this report says to me is that Habitat for Humanity is a huge force for good. Even with fewer donations during the recession, Habitat continues to live out its mission of wiping poverty housing off the face of the earth.
This is just one more reason for me to be grateful for the honor of serving in such a wonderful organization.
I hope you have a great holiday weekend. Thanks for being a part of my journey!
